Today in History (2025.03.16 / 1926.03.16 & 1935.03.16) What If Rockets Were Never Invented? No Hitler's Weapon, No Space Travel?
📌 1. What if rockets were never launched? (The historical meaning of rocket launch)
On March 16, 1926, Robert Goddard launched the world's first liquid-fueled rocket.
At that time, people laughed at him, saying, "Flying with a rocket? That's impossible!"
But Goddard never gave up.
In the end, he succeeded in launching the first rocket in human history, opening the door to space exploration.
Today, thanks to his challenge, we can explore space and send satellites into orbit.

This photo shows Robert H. Goddard, known as the father of modern rocketry, preparing for the first liquid-fueled rocket launch.
- Person in the photo: Robert Goddard (1882–1945), pioneering rocket scientist.
- Structure next to him: The world’s first liquid-fueled rocket and its launch pad.
- Location: Auburn, Massachusetts, USA.
- Time: Winter 1926, right before launch.
- Significance: This rocket became the foundation of all modern rockets, including those for space travel and satellites.

However, rocket technology soon turned into a terrifying weapon.
On March 16, 1935, Hitler declared Germany's rearmament.
Inspired by Goddard's rocket, German scientists developed the V2 rocket.
The V2 rocket was the world’s first long-range ballistic missile.
It attacked London and Paris, causing countless civilian casualties.

This photo captures the launch of Germany's V2 rocket during World War II.
- Rocket name: V2 rocket (Vergeltungswaffe 2, "Retribution Weapon 2").
- Year: Around 1944, during World War II.
- Location: German testing ground.
- Significance: First ballistic missile, based on Goddard's liquid-fuel technology.

📌 3. Rockets: Weapon or Peace? (Two sides of rockets)
If Goddard had never launched a rocket, would Hitler's V2 have been possible?
But without rockets, we might have never reached the Moon or Mars.
We couldn’t launch satellites, GPS, or space telescopes.
Thus, rockets are both a symbol of war and a path to peace and exploration.
📌 4. What do you think?
What kind of world would we live in if rockets had never existed?
Are rockets weapons of war, or symbols of peace and progress?
